Haiku Friday...summertime beginnings

Memorial Day
Parade, marching, flag waving
saxophone music

play to see tonight
concert to play tomorrow
friends to be with too

pool is opening
hot dogs, snow cones, candy too
girl's first job begins

my girl is growing
new beginnings, adventures
world, be good to her.

My lovely daughter is on the cusp of so much. I feel like this weekend marks the beginning of a whole new world for her. She will be busy with Marching band, jazz band, theater, social times, her first job...The tweedles are sad because she's not around a whole lot anymore. I'm a little sad because I know the "pulling away" has started. I also know it's a good thing for her. She will stretch and grow, and experience independence while she's still safe in our cocoon. I hope it is the beginning of a wonderful time.

Check out Jennifer for more Haiku Friday.

Can't we keep them young just a little while longer?
Great haiku.

A whole new world is before you and your daughter, who is stunning, btw.

They grow so fast. She is lovely, and I join you in hoping the world treats her gently.

At least she has a good place to go back to, to recover from any bumps and bruises.

isn't it great that summer is finally beginning?

our children do grow up so fast. my boys are only almost-2 and 3, but it seems like just yesterday that my oldest was born. and i know it's just going to keep flying by faster!

your daughter is beautiful, btw!

great haiku! have a great weekend!

Very cute photo of your daughter. And yes, the pulling away is hard. I see it even in my very independant 21-month-old. I wish they would stay small forever.

I love your haiku. Your kids are so beautiful - but you already knew that. I'm tyring to enjoy my little one as she is now, and not spend too much time wishing she could crawl, walk, talk, etc. The only wish I allow myself is that she get BIGGER!

That was beautiful. Isn't it amazing how the start of a season can almost be a metaphor for new chapters in our lives? I felt that way about spring this year in ways I'd never experienced before, and I felt that same sense in your fabulous haiku. Summertime, your daughter learning to grow taller like a sunflower. That's what came to my mind reading this. And I *love* the last line. Really awesome.

A little sad, that a teenagers job is to separate from their parents.
She sounds like an awesome girl with a bright future ahead!

Very nice haiku and introspection. I dread those 'pulling away' days, and although they're far away, they feel so close at the same time.

Thanks for the wee visit :o)

Aw Stacy, she's so pretty! Your post makes me sad, I'm not ready for that "pulling away" but I can feel them coming too :(
Why do they have to grow up dangit! Have a fun Memorial! Be careful if you're on the road!
