Truth time...no hiding.

A green thumb I do not have
black is more like it.
We planted a patch of tomatoes and peppers this year. I wanted the kids to have the pleasure of growing things, and I wanted the pleasure of tomatoes and peppers! Things had been going well, I've even been remembering to water--this is a huge development. This morning when I went out to water, I noticed one of my pepper plants is SICK. Anyone have any idea what is wrong and what to do? I swear I'm about to just give up. The green thumb has clearly skipped a generation.

Sorry, can't help you out. My thumb is also fairly black. But my major nemesis is beetles and forgetting to water. The beetles ruined my tomato and raspberry plants last year.
I have no idea what to tell you. I don't even know if I would have noticed that. They still look pretty healthy to me. ???
It's happening almost everywhere stems intersect. Yuck. It looks like it's just a matter of time before they wilt up and drop off.
Is that the base of the stems? I've had something similar happen when the soil was kept too wet. Perhaps a nutrient not being there?? I'd be in the car on my way to the garden shop LOL
Ooh, I am totally useless here other than to say that you put it nicely in haiku and that I am the last person you'd want to turn to for advice on anything green. Hope you get some comments from people who don't kill plants and can help. :)
tomatoes like hot and wet.
peppers like hot and dry.
Seems to me it might be a case of overwatering. Which may be hard when they're in the same space. Try and go lightly on that side for a bit and hope it isn't too late.
Yeah... I don't have a green thumb either. I wish I did... but sadly, I don't.
I've never seen black at the base before. Interesting...
