Normal day, let me be aware of the treasure you are…
Let me not pass you by in quest of some rare and perfect Tomorrow.
One day I shall dig my nails into the earth,
or bury my face in my pillow,
or stretch myself taut, or raise my hands to the sky
and want, more than all the world, your return.

Help Wanted

Okay--really stinky day so far. I broke Mark's razor in the shower this morning when I tried to get a bar of soap out of the soap dish. Normally I do not use soap, but a friend of mine has started a green products business and sent me a bunch of (too expensive) products to try in hopes that I would buy some things.

Okay. Question #1. What would you do? I care about my friend a great deal, but I like the products I already use, and I like the prices I pay for them. I wish her all the success in the world, but I really don't want to buy anything.

Moving on...
Three wet spots on Jacob's ceiling. Ugh. It could be worse though. Much, much worse, so for now I'll concentrate on being grateful it's not. I'm also trying to figure out if this truly can be an isolated fluke that will never happen again, or if there's something we should be doing, and if so, what? We'll call that run on sentence Question #2.

Cats. Question #3.
Our cat is peeing on our downstairs carpet. Evidently this has been going on for a very long time. Today, my denial was busted when I walked downstairs to find her mid-act. I love our cat. She's a terrific cat, friendly, loving. Obviously this can't go on however. Any experience? Any advice? Any choices out there? Right now the only two I can see are equally unpalatable: ignore it and let her use our entire family room as a litter box, or take her to the vet and have a wonderful pet put to sleep. If any one has a better solution, I'm all ears.

Internet/Laptops Question #4.
This morning I went to turn on the laptop and catch up on email, blogs, etc., before my day really got going. No internet. No sign of any internet. That's not really accurate, what's completely gone is the wireless. Without wireless we have no access on the laptop. The wireless light stays orange, indicating no wireless, there's no icon to click to see what's wrong. There's no obvious sign something is wrong--beyond the obvious that there is no internet. No warning, no troubles before hand, otherwise functioning perfectly, but there's absolutely no wireless on our HP right now. Again, experience...advice?

Thanks. Thanks for listening to me whine once again as well.

If you have any advice, I'm all ears.

Oh, by the way, I won't be around much. It's not very easy for me to use our desktop, the laptop is my lifeline to the outside world and that lifeline is severely broken. I'll be thinking of you.

About the cat peeing on the carpet. I think you SHOULD take it to the vet, but not to have it put to sleep (if anything, give it up for adoption at a no-kill shelter!). Perhaps there is some underlying medical issue that needs to be addressed. Perhaps the cat senses the stress in the house and is reacting to it. One of our cats was doing the same thing, and about the only thing you can do (if you know there is nothing physically wrong with the cat) is pull up the carpet in that area and thoroughly clean all layers - carpet, padding, floor. If cats smell urine residue, they're likely to revisit that spot.

About your friend - Tell her thanks, but no thanks. She'll understand. ;-)

About the wireless - That occasionally happens to us. Unplug your wireless router, wait 30 seconds, and then plug it back in. And make sure your cable modem is on.

About the ceiling - I'd call a trusted contractor or someone who knows about leaks and ceilings.

Agree with above.
Take to vet, maybe she is acting out because something else is wrong.

Oh, the cat pee. I can relate. I think cats do it for various reasons. Sometimes, I think they do it out of revenge. Our cats sure have.... Good luck with it. Maybe your vet has some ideas?

Question #1- If she asks tell her they were very nice but you prefer your soap.
Question #2- I would have someone look at it. It wouldn't just happen as a fluke.
As for questions 3 and 4 I have no idea. Good luck!

With the soap friend...maybe just buy one bar? Then tell her thanks but it made you itchy? I dunno that's tough!! Good luck!

You've already got some great advice about #1.

#2 - living in an arid region, we don't have much experience with damp spots. Hope you can get that sorted.

#3 - put a litter box right where you saw the cat peeing. It's hard to train an older cat, but my mum did it with one she 'inherited from her aunt. Every day, clean the litter box, take the cat to it, and move it a little further toward the spot you'd rather have the litter box (I am assuming you don't really want it in the family room!) Hopefully kitty will get the message and start using the litter box rather than the carpet, and you'll gradually be able to move it to the laundry or wherever you want it to go.

#4 - when our wireless drops out we have to unplug the modem and router (sp?) and wait minute before plugging back in. Usually works for us, but that's with our set up - I don't know if yours is the same.

You don't need my help! You've got all the answers in the other comments. Just wanted to commiserate about the damn cats and their inability to get into the damn litter box. Just like men.

Wireless - great answers already, if it continues consider asking a computer geek friend, neighbor or relative for help

Friend's business - again great responses. We're all on a tight budget these days. Well, most of us. I explain to people that I'm not able to buy anything but will provide referrals.

I'm doing some blog visiting of my own today. Since returning to work full time there's not much time. I'm glad to hear all is well in your neck of the woods.

I second the "take the cat to the vet" responses. I know that is a bill you don't want, but you may get a good answer. With dogs, it can be a unrinary tract infection.

Get the leak fixed! If the damp continues it can lead to mold. Having suffered through that this past summer, you definitely DO NOT want to go there.

Tell your friend that you tried the products, and be honest about your assessment. One thing to consider - would you buy this stuff if the prices were more in line with what you currently use? If so, tell her. Customer feedback is crucial to the success of any business, and she will need to listen to the good and the bad if she is to survive, esp in these tough times.

No advice from me... just a warm hello and moral support from a far away friend!

My cats are senior citizens, and one of them pees in our family room too, which is also Baby Jail, and therefore highly undesirable. I have a spray that removes the smell really well, but it's an ongoing problem. I wish I had some good advice for you.

I occasionally lose wireless on my latop as well. I unplug the router, plug it back in, and then reboot.

Good luck!
