We just got the bill for Jacob's "accident" last month. I'll save you following the link, because if you blink you'll miss it. He fell backward off the swing, hit his head hard, and needed three stitches. Three. Not a biggy. We weren't even at the ER an hour.
$1100 is our portion of the bill. Have I ever told you I hate our health insurance? Seriously. With a passion. $1100 for three itty bitty stitches!!! Keep in mind we have employer sponsored health insurance that we pay almost $500 a month for, all of which gives us less than $1000 worth of benefits throughout the year. It's soooooo tempting to just cancel the damn thing and go it alone. But we won't. Pinky swear. Because useless as a $6000 per person deductible is, the alternative just really isn't acceptable.
Next time I'm sewing him up myself.

Ouch is right! I love how you ended this post! If you need me I would be glad to fly out & sew him up for that price! :)
Hang in there!!
My hubby is self employed so we pay for our own insurance too. Our insurance costs were $1400 a month until we just recently changed our policy. Now it is a little more than half of that. We have high deductables too, but what are ya gonna do?
When Joey got stitches (did I spell that right? it doesn't look right) a few months back we couldn't BELIEVE the bill. About $1800 total (though he need about 20 stitches total). EGAD! Absolutely outrageous!
I agree - our health insurance and your health system in America really sucks. I used to complain that I had to wait at the ER for 4 hours for my son to get 2 stitches. I won't complain any more!! It's a pity you can't change to a better health insurance provider, but from what I've read around the American blogs, what you have is pretty much all that's available :(
That first line should read "your" not "our".
uhg.
Ouch is right! Geesh for 3 stitches!? That stinks :( Praying for the job situation ...
OMG-that is outrageous. I'm so sorry. Universal health care can't come soon enough.
Unbelievable. How can someone charge that much for 3 stitches? Hope they didn't double-charge you on anything!
Oh how I'd be stitching him up myself as well! Yikes.
My brother was just in a horrible bike accident. His tire just caught the morning dew and he ended up flipping over 2 cars and shredding his leg in two places. A call to 911 and 3 nights in the hospital later (to ultimately save his leg) and he's now staying on my parent's couch. The bill? Probably in the 20k area - with no insurance. We're all freaking out. But at least he kept his leg, right?
That's what we keep telling ourselves...
That is SO ridiculous! It amazes me what they charge for stuff.
