So, how's your Wednesday going? Mine? Not so much. Julianna woke up today with her mouth covered in dried blood. Yesterday getting her palate expander on was really rough on her. She has a bad canker sore on her lips and the lip stretchers they used greatly bothered it. Plus, she still isn't able to eat or drink so she's dehydrated and that isn't helping. I tried to force her to eat or drink a bit this morning, and I mean a bit, she had maybe a dime-sized piece of a bread and butter sandwich, which she ended up throwing up right away. :(
Poor baby. I feel so helpless. I have no idea how to make this better for her. Hopefully she'll adjust quickly now that we're nearing the 24 hours mark. She's home from school today. Until I can get her eating and drinking I don't think she'll have the energy to do much of anything.
Mark came home from work sick this morning. It might make me a wee bit crazy that when I'm sick (as I have been the past four days), life goes on, but when he's sick, life stops. Yup, call me envious, I'll cop to that. I'm feeling better today, not much choice really, Julianna needs her mommy in good shape, hopefully he'll be better soon too.
Yesterday when we were at the orthodontist, I wasn't happy with the way Julianna was treated. I felt like she was treated like just a body in a chair--could have been anyone, get her in, get her out. Julianna was gagging and having a hard time, at one point the vacuum that they use was in the back of her throat by her tonsils, activating the gag reflex even more, and the tech wasn't even paying attention. Not happy.
So, this morning I called the ortho office, asked to speak to the office manager and let her know how I felt. She was very nice and properly upset about it, and assured me it would be taken care of right away. I'm not trying to cause trouble, I really don't like to do that, but mess with my kids and watch me react. I don't take well to that at all.
Hope your Wednesday's off to a good start. I think we're going to go for survival mode on this one. Just get through it, tomorrow's bound to be better, right?
Anyone else have a child who's had such a hard time adjusting to a palate expander? Any advice? I'm all ears.

So Sorry! That sounds rough. I had braces but had to wait until I could pay for it when I was 24. I never had a palate expander, but I did have to have oral surgery, which was miserable. It will get better with time! Hope she feels a bit better by the end of the day.
Bless her heart. Good for you for being a mama bear and calling. They won't know unless you tell them. Pedialyte: It's the best fluid on earth! :D
Oh many - that does NOT sound like fun. I had a palate extenderer too .. but I vaguely remember anything about it, except my mother turning the key in it every night.
I'm sending you lots of virtual hugs and some sanity while you deal with a miserable little girl. Ice cream isn't a bad idea either. Milk and soft - double win!
Ohh! What a yucky week! Sickness is the worst! I agree...when mom gets sick muscle through it...when dad gets sick he's 'down'! :( My sister had one of those when she was younger too. She had very good luck with hers. I wont tell you what happened to my friend! :( They're miserable at first, but it will definitely pay off! I can't believe they treated her so poorly! I certainly hope they're in a better mood next month!
Hold tight...it's almost Friday!

Poor Julianna - sounds like quite an ordeal for a little girl. Hope she's feeling more comfortable today.
I can really sympathize with you about the husband & sickness. Because my HB is in the army all he has to do is go to the military medical centre and say "I'm sick" and they'll send him home for 3 days loaded up with medicine to ease his aches and pains.
Me? The children? We have to practically be dying before he will even concede that 'maybe' we should see a doctor, and then grumbles about how much the medical fees and medicine is costing.
So if anyone calls you envious they'll have to heap a double and triple serving on my head ;)
I had one of those awful expanders as a child and remember it very vividly! It made my mouth produce so much extra saliva, I thought I was going to drown. (Sorry if that's TMI)
Let her know this - I does get better. LOTS better. To the point that you don't even notice it (hard to believe, right? Once you stop turning it every day it all settles down). I had to readjust when they took mine out, I had gotten so used to it.
So hang in there!
I know EXACTLY what you mean about the differences in you being sick and hubby being sick. It is the SAME way at my house, though my hubby seems to think he is a hero about it. HA! It makes me crazy.
Poor Julianna. I had braces and often felt like a piece of meat in that stupid chair. I hated my entire experience with braces. It was awful but it was necessary and I like the results (i suppose). I hope she feels better soon.
