Normal day, let me be aware of the treasure you are…
Let me not pass you by in quest of some rare and perfect Tomorrow.
One day I shall dig my nails into the earth,
or bury my face in my pillow,
or stretch myself taut, or raise my hands to the sky
and want, more than all the world, your return.

A Friendly Warning

We were checking out our local asian market recently and Jacob found a dragon fruit.
Dragon Fruit!  I've always wanted to try that,
Can we buy it???

$6.00!!!

Still, I like to encourage the kids to try new things, especially healthy new things,
so I sucked it up and we bought it.

(Please ignore Jacob's hair in all pictures...no idea what was going on there.)

We took it home, cut it in half...

Mark definitely did not like it.

"I need something to wash that taste away!"

Needless to say, Jacob was disappointed too...

Yup, definitely a thumbs down.

There's a chance that we did it wrong, maybe the one we picked out wasn't ripe, maybe there was some other problem with it, but at those prices and at that first taste, it's an experience we won't be repeating.  :)

You win some you lose some, at least I got points for trying.

i had dragon fruit for the first time here and found it had no flavor. for real, it tasted like nothing. i've had it many, many more times and it's always hit or miss. it's either fantastic, sweet, juicy, or it's nothing.

but, i've never had it taste bad.

good for you for adventuring out!!

LOL. Love the faces. I've never had real live dragon fruit but have had juice that has it in it and have liked it. They must pack it with sugar. :v)

That's so cool, though. Jacob will always remember that. :)

What's more important is that you captured those first tastes.

The spots inside are weird..I don't think I could have gotten past it!

Laughing hysterically! :) That seriously sounds like something my kids would insist on doing...with the same reaction! It was worth the $6 just for the pictures, right?

That is too funny! I've always wanted to try a dragon fruit, now maybe I'll reconsider!

I'm always afraid to try things like that since I have no idea how to prepare them. I keep seeing these tiny-flying-saucer-looking squash at the farmer's market, but have no idea what to do with them!
