- We get our new dishwasher today. *Squee!* I'm very excited. Our dishwasher isn't that old, and it cost a pretty penny, but we've had several problems with it and it appears the mother board is going again, so we decided to bite the bullet and replace it, (Smart!) with the same dishwasher (not so smart??). The thing is, I love my dishwasher, I really do, and the brand has an excellent reputation and history so I decided to go for it, hope that turns out to be a good decision. It's been on order for a couple of weeks, and our old one has been continuing to go downhill in that time period, so I'm excited the day is finally here. Last week when the old one flooded the kitchen and the basement was fun!
- Mark's flying out of town next week to try and close a really big job. We both need it to go well. He's also working on a couple of other big jobs. Somewhere along the line, my attitude has gone the way of the economy and I'm always pessimistic, always waiting for the "catch", the bottom to drop out. Whether he gets these jobs or not, I truly need to figure out how to get a handle on that and try to get back some of my inner Pollyanna. I don't like who I am when I'm always expecting things to go wrong. I need to find a way to change that.
- Have you ever "opened mouth, inserted foot"? Unfortunately, this weekend, I got a real mouthful. We ran into a wonderful woman, she used to be a librarian at our local library and wonderful is not a strong enough adjective to describe her. She engaged the kids, she got to know the kids, she cared about the kids. I remember when Rebekah was little and Ella Enchanted appeared at our library for the first time, she set aside a copy for Rebekah because she knew she would love that book. Miss D was from a different time at our library, a time when there was a team of librarians there that was truly special and caring and involved. I run into her from time to time and I was thrilled to see her Saturday. (Sadly, she works at a different library now, a very lucky library!) Anyway, we ran into her, we said hello; then, and I have no idea why I did this, I asked how her husband was. The last time I had seen her, about a year ago, I had known her husband was ill, with something theoretically someone could die from, but not something you would really expect someone to die from. Especially not someone young and healthy and in the prime of their life. Well, you know what's coming, he has passed away. I felt awful to ask something so thoughtlessly that brought up pain for her. If I had just stopped and thought about it, I wouldn't have asked, too risky. I stayed there and directed the conversation in other ways and we chatted for a bit, but still... Moral of the story, if you don't know, don't ask.
- We joined our local community center in May. We went ahead and got a family membership, which in hindsight, was probably a mistake. I've been trying to figure out a way to get the kids more active, so I thought we'd take advantage of our membership and swim two nights a week. Julianna has dance Monday and Wednesdays, so Tuesdays and Thursdays it is! Well...not so fast. Apparently our rec center closes the pool to members Tuesday and Thursday evenings to hold swim lessons. *sigh* Sometimes you really can't win.
Normal day, let me be aware of the treasure you are…
Let me not pass you by in quest of some rare and perfect Tomorrow.
One day I shall dig my nails into the earth,
or bury my face in my pillow,
or stretch myself taut, or raise my hands to the sky
and want, more than all the world, your return.

Monday, Monday
My thoughts are completely scattered lately, so I decided to just go with it. Here, in no particular order, is what's floating around in there:

I'm sure the librarian wasn't NOT thinking about her husband and then you MADE her think about him by asking. Chances are she appreciated your concern!
I'll keep my fingers crossed about these big jobs! I've got enough Pollyanna for both of us! ;)
We need a new dishwasher....can't do it yet. gonna have to put up with some leaking for a while...sigh...
